The animated screen version of the well-known Book of Kells tells the story 12-year-old orphaned boy Brendan. He lives in an outlying medieval abbey with his strict uncle Abbott Cellach who is Brendan’s only family. Hand in hand with the monks living in the Abbey of Kells Brendan works at reinforcing the walls in order to defend it from Viking raids.
One day a glorious master illuminator Brother Aidan arrives from foreign lands. He fills Brendan’s life with adventure and lets him into the secrets of illumination. The master brings an ancient book fraught with secret wisdom and powers. But the book is unfinished. In order to complete the magic book, Brendan has to fulfill a dangerous mission and overcome his fears. He starts out to seek special berries with wonderful juice. It is used for making emerald ink for writing “The Book of Kells”. Brendan finds himself in the enchanted forest full mythical creatures. Here he meets a mysterious young fairy Aisling who is completely white and can turn into a wolf. Aisling gives Brendan a helping hand along his way.  When Viking Hordes launch the attack Brendan must do his best to get a magic crystal. Then he will be able to finish the last pages of the Sacred Book.
