 The events of the film by Matt Reeves take place in snowy suburbs of New Mexico, where the twelve-year-old boy called Owen lives. The classmates don’t like Owen and bully and torment him constantly. Being a neglected child of divorcing parents, he couldn’t either find by them any assistance and support, which he needs badly. The neighbor girl becomes the only friend and soul mate of poor Owen. Living in the same apartment complex next door to each other, Owen and Abby start to meet at nights. These are very strange but unique relations, and both of the friends appreciate the time they could communicate with each other and share their secrets. Abby is a self-possessed and very eccentric young girl. She lives with a strangely silent dad, who rarely leaves his apartment. As for Abby, she appears only in twilight and always barefoot. The bizarre behavior of his friend couldn’t remain unseen for Owen.

When Abby’s father disappears under unknown and mysterious circumstances one day, the girl has to live by her own in the apartment, but she refuses any help from Owen. The imaginative boy begins to suspect, that Abby is not a usual girl, and perhaps she has a big secret, which she doesn’t feel like telling him about…

A great mix of comedy, thriller and Sci-Fi, the film from writer and director Gregg Araki tells the mysterious story of sexual awakening and its consequences.

The main hero is a freshman named Smith, a bisexual young man, whose thoughts and dreams are totally captured by sex and everything connected with sex. Smith has a good acquaintance called Stella, with whom he spends most of his time. Besides he is also crazy about another girl and his roommate Tor. To that Smith is haunted by recurring dreams. He constantly sees two beautiful women in his dreams: one of them has a flaming red hair, while another one is dark and mysterious. Actually they don’t bother Smith, at least in the beginning. But what is strange, that soon the personages of Smith’s dreams begin to appear in reality… It is either a result of hallucinogen cookies, he has taken at a party, or something else, that he can’t explain. Could he be someway involved into something incomprehensible for a human mind?

In the title role of the film stars Thomas Dekker. Stella is played by Haley Bennett; Nicole LaLiberte stars a red haired girl; Catherine Breillat appears in the film as a dark one.
